David Grishman To Serve As Swampscott Select Board Chair

SWAMPSCOTT, MA — David Grishman, who was recently re-elected to the Swampscott Select Board for a second term, will serve as the Select Board chairperson through June 2024 after a vote of the Board on Wednesday night.

Grishman served as vice chair under Neal Duffy for most of the past year and took over chair duties in April when Duffy decided not to run for re-election.

Grishman helped shepherd the Select Board recommendations through the annual town meeting in May and was a driving force behind the town’s acquisition of the property at 12-24 Pine Street intended for future veterans’ affordable housing and a renovated VFW.

“You stepped in at a really busy time with a lot of stuff going on and, frankly, I don’t know how you did it,” Select Board member Peter Spellios said in nominating Grishman for the position. “But you did it and you didn’t ask for a heck of a lot of help.

“I appreciate that you just owned it.”

Katie Phelan, in her first term on the Select Board, was voted as vice chair through next June.

Grishman told Patch prior to the April 25 town election that fiscal discipline and creativity will be key drivers for the town as it looks to embark on needed programs and projects while maintaining a strong credit rating, financial reserves and excess tax levy capacity.

“Great things are happening in Swampscott,” Grishman said in April. “With the support of residents and voters in town, I very much look forward to continuing the hard work for the town for another three years.”

Grishman lives in the town with his wife, Amy, and two sons. He is a commercial lender at North Shore Bank.
