METRO ATLANTA, GA — A storm system in the northeast is expected to bring rain and thunderstorms to Metro Atlanta starting Tuesday — with residents getting at least a day of reprieve today after Sunday’s rain.
While Monday is expected to mostly be clear, rain is predicted for the remainder of the workweek, Dylan Lusk, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service’s Peachtree City office, told Patch.

The weather service received a handful of reports of knocked down trees and hail near Coweta County during Sunday’s storm, Lusk said.

A storm system currently sitting in place and spinning in the northeast is expected to cause additional thunderstorms starting Tuesday. Moisture being pulled in from the Gulf of Mexico is also contributing to the increased rain chances, according to Lusk.
“Some of that rain could be heavy,” he said.

Tuesday should be cloudy with possible thunderstorms arriving around 1 p.m. The heaviest of the rain is anticipated to occur during the overnight hours into Wednesday. Then, metro residents can expect rounds of precipitation with one storm system moving in after the other, Lusk said.
Hazards with the mid-week storms include a marginal risk for inch-sized hail and isolated strong damaging wind gusts of 60 mph. Lusk said the wind speed is enough to toss around patio furniture and any outside debris.
Scattered thunderstorms could be possible for Thursday and Friday, though it’s too early to predict any anticipated hazards with these storms, Lusk said.
There could be a chance for more scattered thunderstorms during the weekend as well.
“We could have yet more rain move into the area unfortunately, ” Lusk said.
As for temperatures, highs Monday should be in the lower 80s.
“For June, it’s wonderful,” Lusk said. “We’ll take it.”
Wednesday highs will around the 80s, with Thursday temps expected to be in the mid-80s. Friday temps will be in the upper 80s for a “slow, steady warmup,” Lusk said.
Updates will be posted to the weather service’s Twitter page, the weather service’s Facebook page and on its website.
