FARMINGDALE, NY — Side Hustle Bread is set to start writing its next doughy chapter.
Owner Jim Serpico announced pop-ups every Sunday for six months at 850 Main Street, Farmingdale. The first one is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday.
Serpico, who said he has an appetite for brick and mortar, found the building is available on Sundays and came up with the idea of a pop-up. He will sell breads, pizzas, and sandwiches. Side Hustle delivers its bread through its website, but Serpico wanted to try something new.

“I am beside myself,” Serpico told Patch. “I’m also a little nervous. I have a fear of being stuck with tons of bread and pizza while at the same time, I have a fear that I’m going to sell out and not have enough. I actually don’t have context for brick and mortar. I’m curious to see what the flow actually is and by being there consistently on Sundays, can we actually build a following here?”
The Side Hustle Bread pop-up menu features bread loaves, panino sandwiches, and pizza. There will be slices and large pies, while Serpico eventually plans to add personal pies. He offers Neapolitan, tavern and Roman styles.

Serpico said he has been studying pizza “pretty deeply” over the past year after developing a passion for pizza-making in addition to his existing love of bread-making.
“I took a course in Miami with Tony Gemignani, who’s one of the premier pizza-makers in America. I’m excited to put my knowledge and passion out into the world,” Serpico said.

Farmingdale is a “bulls-eye” location for the pop-up, Serpico said, because of its central location on Long Island.
“It’s kind of like the heart of our customer base”
