HINSDALE, IL – Niki Conforti, a Republican running for the congressional seat in the western suburbs, is disavowing a text message that appears as if she were supporting a Democratic candidate.
Conforti, a Glen Ellyn resident, is unopposed in Tuesday’s GOP primary in the 6th Congressional District.
In the Democratic primary, three candidates are running – incumbent Sean Casten of Downers Grove, Mahnoor Ahmad of Oakbrook Terrace and Charles Hughes of Chicago.

The text message in question appears to ask Republican voters to back Ahmad against Casten. It misspells Conforti’s first name.
“(I)t looks like there is a strong Republican ticket with Donald Trump for President and Nikki Conforti for Congress. But Nikki will have a hard fight against incumbent Sean Casten who has millions backed by his corporate donors,” the message reads.

It encourages Republican primary voters to “make it easier” for Conforti in November and vote for Ahmad now, saying Ahmad doesn’t have nearly as much money as Casten.
In a Facebook post Monday, Conforti said the text message was made to appear as if it had come from her campaign, but it didn’t. She said she did not know the message’s origins.
The 6th District includes all or parts of Elmhurst, Western Springs, Hinsdale, Darien, Burr Ridge and Downers Grove, among other towns.
