Bicyclist, Semi-Truck Collide In Downtown Pittsburgh

PITTSBURGH, PA — A bicyclist was severely injured Tuesday in an incident involving a Pittsburgh Regional Transit bus and a semi-truck in Downtown Pittsburgh.

According to Pittsburgh Public Safety officials, the bus and truck were stopped side-by-side at a red light on Liberty Avenue at Stanwix Street. They were both heading inbound. The bus was in the far-right lane and the truck was in the adjacent lane.

The preliminary investigation indicates that the vehicles were given a green light when the cyclist attempted to cross Stanwix Street in front of them. The truck collided with the cyclist.

The cyclist was transported by medics in critical condition to an area hospital where he was immediately taken into surgery.
