PRINCE GEORGE’S COUNTY, MD — For more than 30 years, Clagett Farm has grown fresh organic produce for Marylanders to enjoy.
The agriculture business got its start with a From the Ground Up Program grant through the Capital Area Food Bank. It’s evolved into a popular Community Supported Agriculture program with delivery points in both Prince George’s and Anne Arundel counties.
Clagett Farm, which is owned and operated by the Chesapeake Bay Foundation, functions as aa sustainable, regenerative 283-acre farm in Upper Marlboro that uses best management practices to improve soil health and water quality while growing produce year-round including 100 percent certified organic vegetables.

With the CSA program, members receive fresh seasonal produce from May to November. Seasonal produce includes kales and collards, arugula, cabbages, onions, garlic scallions, large lettuce heads, fennel, swiss chard, bok choy, strawberries, sweet potatoes, carrots, tomatoes, peppers, summer squash, eggplant, okra, cucumbers and more, Valerie Keefer with the Chesapeake Bay Foundation told Patch.
“Eating locally grown food is one of the most effective ways people can support local farmers and minimize their carbon footprint. It is also the best way to get produce with the highest nutrient contents that taste excellent,” Keefer said.

Marylanders can become CSA shareholders by signing up on the farm’s website. There will be a new winter program in addition to the current ongoing main seasonal program where participants will receive produce such as kale, collards, cabbage, lettuce, scallions, radishes, arugula, turnips, sweet potatoes, garlic, winter squash, fennel, chard, kohlrabi, beets, carrots, spinach, broccoli, pea shoots and microgreens.
Participants can decide how long they’d like to receive shares of produce (13 weeks or 26 weeks) and can pick up their bounties each week at one of three locations in Upper Marlboro, Annapolis and Davidsonville, Keefer told Patch.
New this year is the option for CSA members to pre-order Clagett’s 100 percent grass-fed beef and lamb, and pick it up with their produce order. Roughly 70 percent of Clagett Farm’s harvest will go to CSA shareholders and the other 30 percent is donated to local food banks and pantries, Keefer said.
“We’ve really enjoyed being a part of the CSA,” added Shelby Johnson, a shareholder since 2019. “It makes nourishing our family with seasonal produce super easy, but also we know and can trust where our food is coming from.”
Claggett Farm is located at 11904 Old Marlboro Pike in Upper Marlboro.
