JOLIET — Less than a week after 36-year-old Winston Hart was arrested when Joliet police say he made racial slurs toward juveniles and later gyrated his body against a telephone pole to simulate a sex act, the former California resident who now makes Joliet’s Woodruff Road his home was arrested once again this week, this time on aggravated assault charges.
After spending three days in the Will County Jail Aug. 14, Aug. 15 and Aug. 16, Hart was let go because Will County’s judges did not deem his charges of aggravated battery and public indecency detainable under the new Illinois SAFE-T-Act.
Three nights later, on Aug. 19, Joliet police were called to one of the east side’s long-time establishments, Nena’s Cantina at 701 Garnsey Ave., because Hart was causing trouble there, according to the police.

Joliet police spokesman Dwayne English said Hart’s latest brush with Joliet police happened when officers responded to a disturbance at the bar at 9:42 p.m., learning that Hart entered the bar with blood on his face and he was told to leave the bar by the owner.
At that point, Hart began to throw rocks at the bar’s windows, but caused no damage, English said.

Officers spotted Hart in the 700 block of Garnsey Avenue and he appeared intoxicated, and had blood on his face, police said.
Officers requested a Joliet Fire Department ambulance for Hart, who acted belligerent to the officers and made threats to fight and kill them, according to English.
Upon arrival of the ambulance, it was determined that Hart did not require further medical treatment. Hart then told the officers he was going to fight them while taking a fighting stance, English said.
In the end, Joliet police took Hart into custody without further problems on Garnsey, but back at the Joliet Police Department, officials say Hart continued to make threats toward the officers and made threats to harm himself.
Upon his release from custody under the SAFE-T-Act, Hart was taken to Ascension St Joseph Medical Center for an evaluation, according to Joliet police arrest reports.
