Struck By Vehicle, Pittsburgh Motorcyclist Faces Long Road To Recovery

PITTSBURGH, PA — One moment can change lives forever. On Aug. 9, a driver ran a red light at the intersection of Glass Run and Baldwin roads in the city’s Hays section and struck motorcyclist Hadi Tebah.

He was wearing high quality protective gear, a full face helmet and a safety vest but still was nearly killed by the force of the impact. The 2024 graduate of Taylor Allderdice High School in Squirrel Hill suffered a traumatic brain injury and faces a protracted recovery.

The Baldwin resident who was driving the car that struck Tebah faces a DUI charge in connection with the crash.

Tebah had planned to begin fall semester pre-law classes at the University of Pittsburgh-Greensburg. Those plans now, tragically, are on hold.

The crash is a bitter blow to absorb for the Tebah family, who are Syrian refugees who fled the war and resettled in Pittsburgh in 2016.

But rather than discuss their current tragic hardships, they preferred to commend the first responders from Pittsburgh Firehouse No. 20 and the hospital workers who kept Hadi from dying.

The Tebah family responded to a Patch request for comment with this statement: “We are very grateful to the first responders and the trauma team at the hospital who saved Hadi’s life, and we are all praying for his recovery.”

Lisa Kaufman, a friend who started a GoFundMe donation page to benefit the family, told Patch this: “More than two weeks after the crash, they are still devastated and reeling.”
