Princeton Approves Bond Ordinance To Replace Municipal Building HVAC

PRINCETON, NJ – The Council on Monday adopted a bond ordinance appropriating funds for the replacement of the heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) system in the municipal building.

The principal amount is $1,140,000 with $60,000 that needs to be paid as a down payment.

According to Municipal Engineer and Deputy Administrator Deanna Stockton, the current air conditioning system in the building is an original and “on its last legs.”

“We’ve been working with a consultant to design a more energy efficient and environmentally friendly system,” Stockton said.

The Municipality is currently on their second round of bids right now.

The reason for the bond ordinance is because the prices are higher than anticipated.

“We think the prices we are getting are reasonable. Unfortunately, we did not have enough budgeted through previous years capital budget process. So we need to supplement that to be able to make a bid award to make the replacement,” Stockton told council.

The total cost of the project is $2 million. Municipality administrators have applied to PSE&G to get energy efficiency rebates to offset some of the costs of the project.
