SECAUCUS, NJ — A dog died in a house fire that broke out on 10th Street Friday morning in Secaucus, according to Secaucus town administrator Gary Jeffas, who was on the scene Friday.
The fire started at around 10 a.m. in a two-family home on 10th Street, in between Front and Centre streets.

The fire may have originated in the kitchen. The family that lives there was not home, and it was the residents of the other half of the home who first called 911. The family dog inside the home died due to smoke inhalation.

Jeffas said he did not know what caused the fire. Secaucus Fire Department called in Lyndhurst Fire Department for mutual aid. A large police, fire and EMS response shut down 10th Street Friday morning.
The home were the fire started is currently uninhabitable.

The breed of dog is not known, nor how old it is.
