Man Stabs Woman In Car, Knife Found In Nearby Leaves: Batavia PD

BATAVIA, IL — A man was arrested and charged with multiple felonies on Friday after he stabbed a woman in her car, Batavia police said.

Anthony Garrett, 29, who is listed as homeless, was charged with multiple crimes after the stabbing, which happened around 6:17 p.m. Friday in the 1000 block of South Batavia Avenue:

Officers were dispatched to the scene after receiving a report of an “unknown medical problem,” according to a news release. Upon arriving, police found a car stopped in the road with a man — later identified as Garrett — standing outside the driver’s door.

Police found a woman, 29, in the driver’s seat with what appeared to be a stab wound in her torso. Batavia paramedics responded to the scene, evaluated the woman, and took her to a local hospital for further treatment.

Officers found a knife, believed to be the one used in the stabbing, in the leaves beneath trees near where the car was parked, officials said.

Sergeant Michelle Langston told Patch that Garrett and the woman are dating, hence why he was issued domestic violence-related charges.

Garrett was processed at the Batavia Police Department and transported to the Kane County jail.

The case remains under investigation, and police are asking anyone with information to contact the department’s investigations unit at 630-454-2500.
