'Lucky' Illinois Store To Give Away 1,000 Powerball Tickets Wednesday

SKOKIE, IL — If you are hoping to cash in on one of the largest Powerball jackpots in Illinois history, we’ve got the details on how you can score some free lottery tickets ahead of the historic drawing Wednesday night.

And to add to your luck: the tickets will be given away at one of the state’s most “winningest” stores for Powerball wins.

From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Kostner Korner, located at 4356 W. Howard St. in Skokie, will host a Powerball ticket grab challenge, and the Illinois Lottery plans to give away 1,000 tickets at the event.

Those stopping out will have the chance to spend five seconds inside a money machine, trying to grab as many Powerball tickets as they can. All participants must be 18 years old or older and the event will continue while supplies and quantities last, according to an Illinois Lottery news release.

“All they have to do is show up at Kostner Korners between 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, get in line and they will get a chance to enter the money machine for a chance to win free Powerball tickets,” Jennifer Born, senior manager of public relations for the Illinois Lottery, told Patch in email response.

A $1 billion grand prize is on the line during Wednesday night’s Powerball drawing.

And if one lucky player wins Wednesday’s jackpot, it would be the third largest Powerball jackpot and seventh largest lottery jackpot won in U.S. history, according to an Illinois Lottery press release.

Kostner Korner is among five businesses in the state to sell the most Poweball tickets over the past year. If you would like to stop out to purchase your lottery ticket from one of these “lucky” stores, here is a look at the locations:

Powerball tickets are $2 each, and players have the option to add the Powerplay for an additional $1 for the chance to multiply non-jackpot prizes. Powerball drawings are held every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday at 9:59 p.m.
