FAIRFIELD, CT — Jared Schmitt, Fairfield’s chief fiscal officer since 2020, is leaving the post to take the same job with the City of Norwalk, officials from that city announced this week.
Schmitt, an Orange resident, is slated to begin his new assignment on Tuesday, but Fairfield has already named his interim replacement, David Becker.
“Congratulations to Jared Schmitt on his new position,” Fairfield First Selectman Bill Gerber told Patch. “I’m very happy for him.”

Gerber said Fairfield is currently conducting a search for a new CFO. As of Wednesday, the position was not listed among available government jobs on the town’s website.
In Fairfield, Schmitt replaced Caitlin Bosse, who was the interim CFO after the firing of Robert Mayer, the town’s former CFO who was fired in connection with his involvement in the fill pile scandal. Mayer sued Fairfield to regain his job.

While Fairfield’s CFO, Schmitt oversaw the town’s annual budget $350 million-plus, and managed the annual bond sales, among other duties.
Schmitt, a U.S. Army veteran, replaces Henry Dachowitz, who resigned from the Norwalk post in December 2023.
“We are excited to welcome Jared Schmitt as our new CFO,” said Norwalk Mayor Harry Rilling in a statement. “[He] brings a wealth of public financial management experience to the City of Norwalk from the state and local levels and is very knowledgeable about municipal bond sales, capital planning, budget management, risk management and more.”
