Why Man Had $15K In Car In La Grange

LA GRANGE, IL – A man who reported that $15,000 was stolen from his car earlier this month in La Grange told officers that he needed that much cash for business purposes, police said.

Patch obtained the police report through a public record request.

On the afternoon of Aug. 10, the 48-year-old victim called police about the theft. He said the money was stolen from his 2019 Jeep SUV’s center console while visiting a friend at the La Grange hospital.

Before going to the hospital, the man said he got the money from a bank, showing a receipt as proof. He told police that he saw no one suspicious at the bank, but believed he was followed afterward.

Asked whether anyone knew he was making the withdrawal, the victim said no one did, according to the report.

The hospital’s surveillance footage showed a dark SUV with unreadable license plates driving past the Jeep in the parking lot, the report said.

The vehicle then stopped at the edge of the parking lot, with two people getting out.

The video shows the victim leaving his car and walking past the suspects while on his phone, police said.

One of the suspects entered the Jeep, and then the pair returned to the dark SUV.

The victim reported the theft to police soon after returning to his car.

No description of the suspects was given other than that one of them was a man.

Police blacked out the name of the bank in the report.
