Burglar Stole Woman's Jewelry As She Slept: Police

PALO ALTO, CA — Investigators are searching for an unidentified burglar who police allege broke into an elderly woman’s Palo Alto home and stole multiple pieces of jewelry while she slept.

Police said the victim’s daughter called 911 around 10:40 p.m. Tuesday to report a burglary at a home on Barron Avenue. The woman said her mother, a woman in her 90s, slept through the intrusion and was awakened by a telephone call from her alarm company. The victim’s daughter said she received the same call and checked on her mother’s house, finding the front door open.

Officers determined an unknown person entered the home and rummaged through multiple rooms before taking jewelry from the victim’s bedroom while she slept. Police said the suspect may have accessed the house through an unlocked door.
